What Does My Honda Maintenance Minder Code Mean?

Your Honda’s Maintenance Minder combines a main service code with numbered maintenance items. B12, for example, means B service plus items 1 and 2. The oil-life percentage tells you how soon to act.

Look up your code below, see what the work involves, and choose your next step. This guide covers common U.S. gasoline and hybrid Honda codes; your model, year, engine, and owner’s manual determine the exact requirements.

Start with your dashboard

A little code. A clearer next step.

A or B is the main item. Each number after it adds a separate service. B1 adds tire rotation to B service; B12 also adds the filter services listed under 2. It is not a single “12” service.

Maintenance Minder code decoder

Common U.S. gasoline and hybrid Hondas only: A/B with items 1–7. This tool does not identify your vehicle. Prologue EVs, fuel-cell/natural-gas vehicles, and non-U.S. codes need their own manual. Equipment and model-year differences still apply.

Enter A or B, followed by any numbers shown. Lowercase letters and spaces are okay. Your code stays in this page; no form submission is needed.

What the letters and numbers mean

These are common U.S. definitions. An inspection checks condition; it does not automatically call for replacement. Your manual lists the precise inspection items, fluid specifications, and exceptions for your Honda.

Common Maintenance Minder main codes and subcodes for U.S. gasoline and hybrid models
Code Service and what it involves
A Replace engine oilFresh oil supports engine lubrication. The oil filter is specifically included under B.
B Replace engine oil and filter; perform the listed inspectionsCheck front and rear brakes and the manual’s specified steering, suspension, driveshaft boots, brake lines/hoses, fluids, exhaust, and fuel-system items. These checks assess condition so any findings can be discussed.
1 Rotate tiresMove tires to the positions specified for the vehicle to help manage tread wear.
2 Replace engine air and cabin dust/pollen filtersThe engine filter cleans incoming engine air; the cabin filter serves the ventilation system. Inspect the drive belt only where the manual includes it.For example, the 2026 gasoline CR-V lists a drive-belt inspection; the 2026 CR-V Hybrid does not.
3 Replace transmission fluidUse the fluid and procedure specified for that transmission. Some models also include transfer fluid; the 2026 Passport is one example. This code is not a blanket instruction for a transmission flush.
4 Replace spark plugs; check the model’s additional requirementsSpark plugs provide ignition in the gasoline engine. Depending on model, year, and engine, this item may also include valve-clearance inspection and/or timing-belt replacement with water-pump inspection. The 2026 CR-V Hybrid lists plugs only. The gasoline CR-V also lists valve-clearance inspection. The 2026 Passport includes timing-belt replacement and water-pump inspection. Not every Honda has a timing belt; inspecting a water pump does not automatically mean replacing it.
5 Replace engine coolantRenew the specified coolant that helps regulate engine temperature. Hybrid and electric-vehicle cooling systems can have additional, separate requirements.
6 Replace rear differential fluid, where applicableThis services the rear differential on vehicles whose manual lists this item. It does not apply to every Honda or every AWD system.
7 Replace brake fluidRenew the specified hydraulic brake fluid. Time-based replacement may be required even if this number never appears.

Seeing 0, 8, 9, or a different code?

Honda’s codes vary by market and vehicle type. Canadian tables and certain specialized vehicles use different items. Use Honda’s manual selector or ask Ide with your year, model, and full code so we can help identify the right reference.

The percentage matters, too

What your oil-life display is telling you

Maintenance Minder estimates remaining engine-oil service life using engine operating conditions. It is not a fixed mileage countdown. The code identifies the work; the percentage and message indicate timing.

15–6%

Maintenance due soon

Plan your visit. Honda says the displayed maintenance items should be inspected and serviced soon.

5–1%

Maintenance due now

Arrange service as soon as possible. The oil is nearing the end of its calculated service life.

0% / overdue

Service immediately

At 0%, the calculated oil service life is exhausted. A negative distance means maintenance is overdue, not miles you can safely keep driving.

Oil life is not oil level

The percentage does not measure how much oil is in the engine. Check the oil level separately using the procedure and frequency in your owner’s manual. Adding oil does not replace a scheduled oil change.

Low mileage? Time still counts.

In the gasoline/hybrid manuals cited below, Honda calls for an oil change every year if a Maintenance Minder message has not appeared more than 12 months after reset.

Brake fluid has a time limit, too: change it every three years if item 7 has not appeared more than 36 months after its reset. Some older Hondas specify three-year brake-fluid replacement separately from the reminder.

Your driving can change the plan.

Dust, heavy airborne soot, regular towing, slow mountain driving, or extreme temperatures can call for earlier service on certain items. The affected services and intervals vary by model.

Use the special-condition notes in your exact manual rather than a universal mileage chart. Tell our team how you use your Honda so we can review the applicable requirements with you.

Good questions. Clear answers.

A few things worth knowing

Does a code by itself mean service is due today?

Not necessarily. Some models let you view the items planned for the next oil change before the due-soon message appears. Read the code together with the oil-life percentage and maintenance message, and follow any separate time-based requirements.

Is Maintenance Minder the same as a check-engine or oil-pressure warning?

No. Maintenance Minder is a routine maintenance reminder. Warning lights and fault messages may need diagnosis or immediate action. For a low-oil-pressure warning, stop safely and turn the engine or power system off; follow your model’s manual and obtain help. Do not use the decoder or a routine appointment as a response to an urgent warning.

Can I reset the reminder myself?

Reset only the maintenance items that have actually been completed, following your model’s procedure. Clearing the display does not perform the work. An incorrect reset can make future reminders inaccurate. If the code remains after a service visit, ask the team that completed the work to check it.

Does this work for hybrids and the Honda Prologue?

Many U.S. gasoline-electric hybrids use A/B Maintenance Minder codes, but their service lists can differ from gasoline-only models. This decoder does not cover the battery-electric Prologue, fuel-cell vehicles, or natural-gas vehicles. Use their vehicle-specific maintenance information instead.

What should I send Ide if I’m not sure?

Share your model year, model, engine or hybrid version if known, the full dashboard code, oil-life percentage, and exact message. A photo of the display can help our service team understand your question. Mention any separate warning light as well.
